The questions that come up

Repair & Maintenance
Can several doors be inspected in one visit?
Yes. A double garage with two doors, a detached garage plus an attached one, or a row of units in a townhouse complex can be worked through in a single appointment, with a separate record for each door and opener. Property managers often schedule the whole set each spring so every report carries the same date. Tell the office how many doors there are and where, so the time is set aside. My door has a lock bar. Should it be used with an opener?
Not while the opener is connected. If the slide lock is engaged and someone presses the remote, the opener pulls against a locked door and can bend the top section or strip its gear. On a door driven by an opener the lock is usually disabled or removed during a tune-up, and the opener's own hold on the door provides the security. If you want a manual lock for holidays, the technician can show you how to use it safely with the opener unplugged. Garage Door Tune-Up
I only tapped the door with the bumper. Why is it off its track?
A sectional door is strong in the direction it travels and surprisingly easy to push sideways at a single roller. A light nudge on the bottom section can flex the track lip enough for the roller to slip out, after which the section twists and the rollers above follow. The good news is that this kind of event usually leaves the cables and springs alone, so the reset is often rollers, a re-formed track lip and a hinge check. Off-Track Garage Door Reset
Do the hinges and rollers get replaced at the same time?
Hinges and rollers that are bent, cracked or worn are replaced with the section, and the technician checks each one on the affected joints. Sound hinges can be transferred, always by their stamped number, since each position in the door uses a different offset. Rollers that have flat spots, wobbly stems or dried bearings are swapped, often for nylon rollers that run quietly. Fasteners are always new, driven into fresh holes in the new stiles. Springs & Hardware
Will new rollers make my door quieter?
Usually, and often dramatically. Rollers are the only part of the door that touches the track, so most of a door's clatter starts there. Moving from worn steel or bare plastic wheels to nylon ball-bearing rollers changes the sound more than any other single part. The rest of the quiet comes from the same visit: hinges lubricated, loose bolts tightened, the track squared so nothing rubs. Springs can still squeak on their own, and the technician can treat those separately. Garage Door Roller Replacement
Can I keep using the door until the hinge is replaced?
It is better to leave the door closed and use another way in and out. A joint with a failed hinge flexes more on every trip, which strains the neighbouring hinges, can pull a roller out of the track and can crease the panel itself. If the door is already open or stuck partway, leave it where it is rather than running the opener again. A closed, still door is what the technician hopes to find. Garage Door Hinge Replacement
My door came off its track last month. Is this the same service?
It is the follow-on. Putting a door back on its track deals with the rollers and gets the door running again; track repair deals with the reason it left. If the reset showed a spread channel, a bent section or loose brackets, those are corrected now so the rollers stay put. Where nothing on the track was at fault and the cause was a cable or an obstruction, the track is simply checked and confirmed. Garage Door Track Repair or Replacement
What stops the door from falling if a cable lets go?
It depends, and not reliably. The other cable and its spring may hold that corner so the door tips and wedges in the track rather than falling square, and the rollers binding can add some resistance, but neither is dependable: the door can still drop unexpectedly on the failed side. Some doors also carry a broken-cable device on the bottom bracket that grips the track if a cable fails. Because the door may not be held at all, the technician clamps and supports it before doing anything else. Garage Door Cable Replacement

Openers & Access
What should I check before calling?
Look for the simple things: is the opener plugged in and its light working, has the wall control's lock indicator started blinking, does another remote work, is anything sitting in the path of the sensors, and are the little sensor lights steady. Note what the motor does when you press a button. Do not try to lift a door that is stuck if a spring looks broken. Whatever you find, tell the technician; it shortens the diagnosis. Why is there white or grey dust on top of my opener?
Those are shavings from the plastic drive gear inside the head. The gear meshes with a steel worm on the motor shaft, and when it wears the teeth flake off and collect under the cover. Once you see shavings the gear is close to stripping, after which the motor runs and the door stays still. Replacing the gear and sprocket assembly before that happens turns a stranded morning into a planned repair. Chain-Drive Opener Repair
I pulled the red cord during a power cut. Could that have caused this?
It can, if the door was open or out of balance when it was released. The release itself disconnects the trolley from the belt, so a falling door does not throw its weight onto the drive; the real risk is the door itself crashing down and damaging the tracks, hinges or panels. Nothing about the cord itself is harmful; it is designed to be used. The habit to keep is to release the door only when it is closed. Belt-Drive Opener Repair
Will the buttons built into my car work with the new opener?
Nearly always, yes. The in-car transmitter is taught to the new operator using the learn button on the head unit, much like a handheld remote. Some older vehicles predate the newest rolling-code systems and pair through a small repeater or bridge that the technician can supply. Bring the car into the driveway on installation day so it can be programmed and tested before the technician leaves. Garage Door Opener Replacement

Installation & Upgrades
Can replacement work with a low ceiling?
Often, provided the opening and overhead space are measured before ordering. Low-headroom track and other model-supported arrangements can change how the upper section moves through the curve and where counterbalance parts sit. The technician maps beams, pipes and the operator rail, then selects from configurations supported for the particular door. Sectional Garage Door Replacement
Does an uneven garage floor affect the result?
Yes, because the bottom seal meets the slab across the entire width. Measurements show whether the floor slopes consistently, has isolated high spots or has settled at one corner. A flexible astragal can accommodate modest variation, while larger differences may need a separate floor or threshold solution. Door limits should be set to close evenly rather than compress one side excessively. Insulated Steel Garage Door Installation
How are springs chosen for the new assembly?
Spring selection uses the completed door's weight, height, lift arrangement, drum geometry, and expected operating cycle. Reinforcement and windows are included in that calculation. After installation, technicians apply tension with proper winding tools and check manual balance through the travel range, adjusting both sides so cables remain even and the door stays controlled. Wind-Rated Garage Door Replacement
Why are the springs specified after the design choices?
Springs counterbalance the completed moving weight, which includes the sections, overlays, glass and reinforcement. Changing from a plain panel to a heavier decorative construction can therefore change the required spring dimensions and cycle characteristics. Finalizing the door specification first allows the counterbalance components to be selected from the real assembly rather than estimated from the opening size alone.
